Manendo's Market 21st and Wayne St 1959 Erie PA

Manendo's Market

Manendo's Market at 21st and Wayne Streets in Erie, PA offered several choice cuts of meat as advertised in the Erie Morning News on December 3, 1959. 

Prices were as follows:

  • Sirloin Steaks 69¢ per pound
  • Chuck Roasts 47¢ per pound
  • Rib Steaks 69¢ per pound
  • Round Steaks 69¢ per pound
  • Pork Shoulder Steak 49¢ /pound
  • Fancy Sliced Bacon 89¢ /pound
If you bought $5 or more from Dec. 3-5, 1959, you could turn in the coupon and receive 50 free H. O. Gold Stamps.

Anthony Manendo, Dominick Manendo and Christine Osiecki later had Manendo's IGA Foodliner at 1837 Buffalo Road.

  1. remember the place well, northwest corner. grew up not far away at 22nd german st. Went to Garfield grade school, 1st thru 6th, Had many friends on 21st from 1945 thru 1960. Played many ball games at 21/22-Parade/Wallace field in the good old days

    1. I probably know you as I grew up on the corner of 24th & German and used to shop at the small store at 22nd & German. Forgot the name. Also my husband used to hang out at the Parade/Wallace baseball field in the good old days - his name was Joe Cook.

  2. When my husband & I were first married in 1953 we would spend $10/week for groceries and that would include everything including meat. Amazing how now you can spend >$100.

  3. Don't forget to include Louis Manendo who also co-owner of Manendo's IGA Foodliner.

    Louis later opened Lou Manendo's Meat Market located at 2901 Cherry Street from 1970 to 1988.
